Open Copenhagen

New brand for Copenhagen unites business life and organizations

- Competition is set to intensify. The competition for skilled manpower, the declining number of tourists and the important investments is keen, and if Copenhagen is to make an impact it is essential to hold a strong position and that we do best by joining forces. Many organizations are good at marketing Copenhagen within their area of expertise but we have lacked a clear common vision and a global brand for Copenhagen for a long time, states Managing Director of Copenhagen Capacity, Steen Donner who together with the organization Wonderful Copenhagen has taken the initiative to this promotion.

Consequently, a large number of private companies, cultural institutions and NGOs will meet Friday to establish an association with the objective to endorse a united Copenhagen brand. The new brand, cOPENhagen - Open for you, supports Copenhagen’s openness, accommodating attitude and accessibility and simultaneously implies a vision of becoming the most open capital in the world.

- We know that a global brand is very important for the perception of a city. Among the cities that we normally compare ourselves with, both Amsterdam and Stockholm's business lives are behind a strong brand and that type of support makes a significant difference in terms of the awareness of the city and thus the number of investments and incoming tourists, which means millions of kroner on the bottom line, states Lars Bernard Jørgensen, Managing Director of Wonderful Copenhagen.

A strong brand is a solid platform
A common Copenhagen brand is also essential the other way round for private companies, cultural institutions and NGOs that have chosen to endorse the idea and join the association:

- Copenhagen Airports’ means of existence are passengers and route development. We have an entire department working on getting new routes, new airline companies and hence more passengers to Copenhagen and when we are to market Copenhagen as a destination, it is essential that the capital has a strong brand. That is why we need a common platform like the new brand, "says Brian Petersen, CEO of Copenhagen Airports.

Wonderful Copenhagen and Copenhagen Capacity have previously cooperated with the business life on marketing Copenhagen. However, this time it is different because the new project, cOPENhagen - Open for you, is not only about attracting tourists and investments to Copenhagen but also more manpower and knowledge.

- We would like to support an initiative that will ensure the supply of knowledge as a basis for innovation and development in the Capital Region. "cOPENhagen - Open for you" contains some valuable messages that can attract employees from abroad, states Charlotte Mark, Director and Site Leader, Microsoft Development Center, Copenhagen.
Facts:
The initiative for the new brand was launched by Wonderful Copenhagen in cooperation with Copenhagen Capacity, the Capital Region of Denmark, and a number of leading companies with Copenhagen Airports in the lead.

The idea behind "cOPENhagen – Open for you " is an open-source approach where companies and organisations have the possibility to personalize the brand. It is for instance possible to change the background colour and the subject and the pay off "Open for …" can be customized in a way that is meaningful to the individual organisation in a certain context.

The brand itself is to be owned and administrated by the association "Brand Copenhagen". The association will among other things take the initiative to arrange a number of events in the city with the theme, "open". The brand is elaborated by RelationsPeople - PeopleGroup, which was chosen in competition with 30 Danish and international media agencies.
